Choosing the right parasol stand

The base weight is decisive

When the wind blows, enormous forces act on your parasol. For a secure stand even in stronger gusts, the rule of thumb is as follows: the heavier the parasol base, the sturdier the parasol. At Glatz we indicate the recommended base weight for each parasol model.

Parasol stand with rollers

Our parasol stands are available with and without rollers. Parasol stands on rollers provide the best possible solar protection with maximum flexibility. With a rollable parasol base, even larger parasols with 30 kg to 50 kg dead weight can be effortlessly moved. For most parasol bases, Glatz also offers a base cover so that it better matches the design of the parasol.

Alternatives to a parasol base

The Glatz range includes a wide selection of fixation options. For lawns, a lawn spike is recommended. For shading a regularly used site, a fixed ground socket is a good choice, or a mounting plate if the ground is firm. If the regularly used site is surrounded by a wall, wall consoles are ideal. Balcony clamps allow parasols to be fixed to railings. Glatz recommends that you think about the space to be shaded before buying your parasol.

Good to know

Cantilever parasols generally require heavier bases. In this regard, we recommend that you always use original accessories from GLATZ and the correct base weight. Fixed anchoring (such as a ground socket) is ideal for good stability even with high wind speeds.

The right base size for stability is suggested on the detailed product page for each parasol model and configuration – to make sure the parasol and bracket fit each other. Make sure that you observe the product details for your parasol because they include the pole diameter.

As a general rule: the bigger your parasol is, the heavier your parasol stand needs to be. GLATZ engineers calculate, test and define the stand weight for each parasol and parasol size. There is a fact sheet for each of our parasols that offers you information about the right parasol stand.

High quality base material to match the parasol

A Glatz parasol base is made of solid concrete, granite or steel. With bases for larger parasol models, individual concrete slabs are placed in a galvanised steel frame. For most parasol bases, Glatz also offers a base cover to match the base with the design of the parasol.
