drill, baby, drill

So how's that "drill, baby, drill" thingy going? Hmmm, maybe not such a good idea? Considering the very small amount of oil offshore drilling could bring (maybe about 1% of our deman, which sounds like a rounding error to me), is it worth the possible environmental catastrophe? And if the oil is so vital to our security and national interest, why are we selling leases to foreign companies?

I've seen what just a small oil leak can do, and it is tragic. If this so-called "spill" (actually a large scale structural failure) cannot be immediately stopped, a huge fishery could be devastated for years or decades, local economies will be ruined, and untold thousands will be unemployed. This so every person can have a gas guzzler instead of efficient public transportation, agribusiness can prosper while poisoning the soil with petro fertilizers, and we can light up shopping malls 24/7? Doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

And we're supposed to trust BP and Halliburton to get this fixed? C'mon, Mr. President, show some guts and stop this madness!
