Donald McGill, the saucemeister

in

Donald McGill (wikipedia) was the pre-eminent British creator of saucy postcards, back in the good old days when "naughty" was the worst thing you could say about a drawing. More here, and here.

He was a hugely popular illustrator, subject of controversy, and even subject of an essay by George Orwell (who wasn't sure if McGill was a real person or a trade name)

There is something charming about his work, harkening to a simpler time when slightly risque situations with comely young misses, drunks, newlyweds, and raffish Vicars were fair game for humor.
